What is Hypnotherapy? |
| |
Clinical hypnosis is a therapeutic technique that induces a trance to enhance communication between therapist and client. Trance is a naturally occurring state that allows attention to be focused on a key problem or personal growth area. Hypnosis is almost always used as an adjunct to psychotherapy, often within the course of a counseling session. Therapist and client discuss the desired goal of hypnosis prior to the procedure so the therapist can make suggestions that will lead to mutually-agreed-upon outcomes. |

Common Myths and Misconceptions |
| |
Hypnosis is not brainwashing or mind control. In contrast to the authoritarian hypnosis done years ago, contemporary hypnosis is permissive and respectful of clients. When in trance, you know exactly where you are and what is happening. You can even converse while in trance. People experience trance in several different ways. Some people are capable of a deeper trance than others, but almost everyone can achieve some level of trance that enhances the incorporation of hypnotic suggestions. Hypnosis is not a "magic cure-all". Although effective in many cases, trying hypnosis is the only way to know if it will be of help to you. |

How Long Does It Take? |
| |
Hypnotherapy sessions last from about 30-60 minutes. Typically, clients know within 1-3 sessions if hypnosis is helpful. Some of our clients require only a single session. Other clients request hypnosis on an ongoing basis as a result of their positive experiences using the technique to ease behavioral and emotional change. Ultimately, our goal is to help clients achieve the ability to successfully use "autogenics" or self-hypnosis. |
